“India Stands In Solidarity” Prime Minister Expresses Grief After 128 Killed In Nepal Earthquake

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief on Saturday over the loss of lives due to the earthquake in Nepal. He posted the message on his X handle in which he asserted that India stands in solidarity with its neighbouring country and is ready to extend all possible assistance.

“Deeply saddened by loss of lives and damage due to the earthquake in Nepal. India stands in solidarity with the people of Nepal and is ready to extend all possible assistance. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and we wish the injured a quick recovery,” he wrote on X.

The death toll in Nepal due to the powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake that struck on Friday has reached 128. Over 100 are reported injured. The earthquake impact was felt in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi-NCR regions.

According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the earthquake took place at 11:47 pm and its epic center was reported at Jajarkot’s Lamidanda. Communication remains cut off from the region and officials fear rise in the death toll.

The office of Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said that all three security agencies- the Nepal Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has been mobilised for the immediate rescue and relied of injured. Nepal home minister said reports of injuries and damages are also coming from other districts including Dailekh, Salyan and Rolpa.

Injured are being treated at a hospital in Jajarkot. The Indian embassy Nepal has provided an emergency contact for Indians requiring assistance. The helpline number provided is: +977-9851316807.

All the helicopter operators are said to be on standby to assist in airlifting the injured from the affected areas. Officials have said that regular flight operations are suspended for a while.

Nepal lies on major geological faultline wherein the Indian tectonic plate pushes up into the Eurasian plate. Thus, earthquakes are a regular occurrence in this Himalayan nation.
