Doctors opined that the reactions are extremely rare and already known so they asses the patients while scribbling out the drug in limited dosage. The doctors also opined that the reaction may depend on individual patient, they had not observed any ADR during their practice.
The mefenamic acid is a prescription medication. But the drug is widely used in India for several purposes like relieving menstrual pain, muscles and joint pain, head ache and even for fighting high fever in children. Mefenamic acid is sold in the form of Meftal, Mefkind, Mefanorma and Ibuclin P. The drug shows similarities with Aspirin and ibuprofen.
THE DRESS Syndrome can be identified as the severe allergic reactions that caused by certain medications. The allergies can be potentially deadly and can be seen in around total of 10 percent of individuals. The Syndrome can be characterized by high fever haematological abnormalities, skin rashes and internal organ involvements.
Another concern that comes with the use of mefenamic acid is the gastrointestinal issues. Dr. Gautham Bhansali of Bombay Hospital said, “prolonged use of drugs like Meftal may increase the risk of stomach ulcers, bleeding and complications”.
