A first-year PG student at Jadavpur University has accused a senior professor of sexually and mentally harassing her. The incident occurred during the ongoing semester examinations.

The student has lodged a complaint with the university’s registrar Snehamanju Basu on Wednesday night. In the email, the student extended her worry that the accused faculty, a former head of the department, might jeopardise her academic career. Copies of the complaint were sent to the UGC chairman, state women’s commission chairperson and Jadavpur police station.

Snehamanju Basu has forwarded the mail to internal inquiry complaint committee to probe the allegations.

In the complaint, the student written that on the first day of the ongoing semester examinations on February 19, she got “uncomfortably frisked in front o the entire class” alleging that she was cheating, but she claimed that no chits were found, PTI reports.

The student has also alleged that during the second examination, the professor compelled her to leave the exam hall in-between, but the current head of the department allowed her to finish the exam after some time.

Besides, the student has also stated in the complaint that the professor was giving her “uncomfortable stares” and indicated a doubt that whether a girl from a district could obtain the first rank in the admission test conducted by the university, The Telegraph reports.

“This casteist and Brahmanical approach towards a female student from a rural community is completely uncalled for,” the student wrote in her complaint.

Meanwhile, the accused Professor commented: “The allegations are absolutely baseless. I want the university to investigate the allegations at the earliest,” The Telegraph reports as he is saying.
