A young vendor named Yakoob Mansuri, in his 20s, became a hero when he risked his life to rescue newborn babies from a fire at the Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College in Uttar Pradesh on Friday.
Tragically, his own twin daughters who were admitted to the NICU, went missing in the chaos. Yakoob and his wife Nazma had been taking turns to keep watch over their premature twins, but when the fire broke out on Friday night, Yakoob sprang into action.
He broke the window and rushed into the unit to save as many babies as he could. Despite his bravery, his twin daughters were nowhere to be found.

The family’s nightmare deepened when they discovered that the hospital had no information about the twins’ whereabouts. The bodies of Yakoob’s twin daughters were later identified on Saturday, as per the reports.
It was on Friday, that a devastating fire at the Jhansi Medical College in Uttar Pradesh claimed the lives of at least ten children on Friday evening. The blaze broke out around 10:35 pm in the children’s ward, reportedly due to a short circuit, creating a stampede-like situation as thick smoke filled the area.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow over the tragedy, calling it “extremely sad and heartbreaking.” In a tweet, he instructed the district administration and officials to expedite rescue and relief operations.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the parents of the deceased babies and Rs 50,000 each to the family members of the injured babies.
The Chief Minister has directed officials to submit a report within 12 hours and assured strict action against those found guilty of negligence.
Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak confirmed that accountability will be ensured, and necessary reforms will follow to prevent such incidents.
