Justice Yashwant Varma Found Guilty In 'Cash-At-Home' Case As Lok Sabha Panel Submits Report

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha probe panel on Wednesday, August 12, submitted its findings about the cash row allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma in both houses of the Parliament. The committee report found the judge guilty in the case. The inquiry report comprises two volumes and includes oral and documentary evidence collected during the investigation.

The incident occurred in March last year when the fire officials discovered huge cash at the residence of the Justice Varma after a fire broke out in the complex.

The panel report noted that the explanation provided by the judge on the discovery of massive amounts of burnt currency did not exhibit the candour, transparency and institutional responsibility expected in the circumstances.

It also noted that further action as may be considered in accordance with law”. The report pointed out that a substantial unexplained Rs 500 domination currency notes were found in the storeroom situated within the official residential premises at 30, Tughlaq Crescent, New Delhi. The judge failed to furnish a satisfactory explanation regarding the presence, source or ownership thereof.
