
Amid 'Cash' Row, Justice Yashwant Varma Takes Oath As Allahabad High Court Judge
Justice Yashwant Varma, who is facing an in-house inquiry after officials found alleged unaccounted cash at his official residence in Delhi last month, took oath as Allahabad High Court judge on today, April 5. The oath-taking was in a private setting with no dignitaries attending, unlike the usual public oath-taking ceremonies.
Following the cash row, the Supreme Court Collegium had decided to transfer Justice Varma to the Allahabad High Court on March 24, and the Central Government in March 28 notified his repatriation.

Notably, there were outrage among judges and the public over mere transfer to the judge from whose house the illicit cash was discovered. The Allahabad High Court Bar Association had also protested against the transfer of Justice Varma to to the Allahabad High Court.
Earlier, a Public Interest Litigation (PLI) was also filed in the Allahabad High Court demanding to halt the swearing-in of Justice Varma. Justice Varma, who originally belonged to the Allahabad High Court, was transferred to the Delhi High Court in 2021.

On March 18, after a fire broke out at his official bungalow, fire officials discovered the alleged illicit currencies from the storeroom, leading to the controversy.
