Huge Cash Found In Delhi HC Judge's Residence; Congress Demands Accountability
New Delhi: The Congress on Friday reacted to reports regarding the huge amount of alleged unaccounted cash unearthed from the residence of a Delhi High Court judge on March 14. The Delhi High Court judge Yashwant Varma was reportedly out of town when a fire broke out at his residence, forcing the family to call the fire brigade and the police, who unearthed the cash pile.
The police documented the recovery of the huge amount of cash from the judge’s residence and communicated the matter to senior officials, eventually reaching to the judiciary. Following the development, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna intervened by convening an urgent collegium meeting to discuss the issue. The college then unanimously took action by transferring Justice Varma to Allahabad High Court, where he previously served before being appointed to the Delhi HC in October 2021.

Some members of the collegium flagged concerns regarding the action – mere transfer to the judge from whose residence the cash was discovered, according to reports by The Times of India. The judges in the collegium reportedly pointed out that failing to take stricter action could tarnish the judiciary’s credibility and erode public trust in the institution.
