LPU Suspends Classes For 10 Days, Postpones Exams Amid Student Protests Over Alleged Rape
Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Punjab’s Phagwara has suspended regular classes for 10 days and postponed its mid-term examinations amid student protests over an alleged rape incident on the campus.
The university said classes will remain suspended from September 28. It added that a fresh schedule for the mid-term examinations will be announced separately through the University Management System.
In a notice issued to students, LPU said they could return to their hometowns during the 10-day break after consulting their parents or guardians.

Students who choose to remain on campus have been advised to stay inside their hostels or places of residence and avoid unnecessary movement.
The decision came after large-scale protests broke out at the university on Sunday following social media posts claiming that a student had been raped on the campus.
The protests continued for several hours, with students also blocking traffic on National Highway-44 in Phagwara.
According to PTI, traffic movement on the highway was restored during the night between Sunday and Monday.
Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh said the situation was under control and remained peaceful. Police personnel continued to be deployed outside the university campus as a precautionary measure.
Police have said that the allegations circulating on social media have not yet been verified. An FIR has been registered against several unidentified people and an investigation is underway to establish what happened.
The identity of the alleged accused has not been confirmed by the police.
Meanwhile, Punjab’s Chitkara University has declared September 28 to October 1 as non-teaching working days, citing administrative reasons.

LPU and the Punjab Police, which has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter, said the claims being circulated on platforms including Instagram are “false and fabricated.”
