Citing recent geopolitical developments and prioritising national interest following India-Pakistan tensions, Lovely Professional University (LPU) has terminated all Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions in Türkiye and Azerbaijan.
Taking a cue from prominent public universities such as JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia University, and the University of Delhi, LPU has become the first private university in India to terminate its agreements, due to the increasing public disapproval of Türkiye and Azerbaijan for their support of Pakistan during India’s recent Operation Sindoor.

The university held that decision includes immediate termination of student and faculty exchange programmes, joint research projects, dual degree initiatives, and all other forms of academic collaboration with institutions from the two countries.
“When our brave armed forces are risking their lives–whether in covert operations, air defence, or patrolling our borders–we, as an institution, cannot remain indifferent,” Dr. Ashok Kumar Mittal, Founder Chancellor of LPU said. Mittal is also a member of Rajya Sabha.
Continuing further, he said: “LPU’s mission has always been aligned with the growth and integrity of India, and we will never associate with any institution that undermines India’s sovereignty.”
