New Delhi: The Indian government has made no decision to suspend or restrict trade or tourism with Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada told Parliament on Tuesday (August 5). While responding to an unstarred question raised by TMC MP Prof. Saugata Roy, the Minister detailed the current status of India’s trade cooperation with both countries.
The value of India’s import from Türkiye has dropped from USD 3,780 million in 2023-24 to USD 2,995 million in 2024-25. Meanwhile, the import value from Azerbaijan has also remained marginal since the Financial Year 2022-23.

“In the Financial Year 2023-24, imports from Azerbaijan were recorded at less than USD 1 million. This low level of trade activity has continued in subsequent periods, indicating a consistent trend,” the Minister pointed out.
The Minister further listed out the major items India imported from both countries during 2024-25. From Türkiye, items such as Petroleum Crude, Gold, Inorganic Chemicals, Granite, Natural Stones and Aircraft & Spacecraft part were imported.
Similarly, the major items of import from Azerbaijan during this period are Finished Leather, Medical and Scientific Instruments, Raw Hides and Skins, Fruits or Vegetables Seeds and Hand Tools, Cutting Tools of Metals.

“India’s bilateral trade with Turkey during 2024-25 stood at USD 8,712 million while bilateral trade with Azerbaijan stood at USD 96.19 million during 2024-25,” the Minister added.
Due to both countries’ support of Pakistan during the India-Pakistan conflict following Operation Sindoor, Türkiye and Azerbaijan have been facing increasing public disapproval.
