Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar recently responded to Türkiye’s Department of Tourism’s appeal to Indian visitors with a curt “No, thank you” on his X account. However, the Congress criticised the selective condemnation of Türkiye while overlooking China.

They pointed out that both countries expressed support for Pakistan during the recent attack against India, and wrote on X: “Türkiye and China supported the terror state Pakistan. China supplied fighter jets, drones, intelligence, and satellite data about our fighter jets, and so on.”

Türkiye has been facing widespread backlash from Indian travellers following its open support for Pakistan in the recent India-Pakistan conflict, prompting a surge in trip cancellations and criticism across social media. Following this, a public appeal was issued by Turkish tourism authorities, urging Indian travellers to continue visiting the country. In the wake of the incident, Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s comment came in, which was accompanied with #BoycottTurkey and #SayNoToTurkey hashtags.

“But the pseudo-nationalist @RajeevRC_X cannot raise his voice against China or boycott it. Why?” the Congress in its post questioned.

Congress alleged that the selective criticism stemmed from Rajeev Chandrasekhar’s business interests in China. Sharing the company’s details, the party added, “Axis Mechanical Engineering Design (Wuxi) Co. Limited, Tianshan Road 8-1504, New District of Wuxi, CHINA.”

According to a 2014 CARE Rating, India’s leading credit rating agency, Rajeev Chandrasekhar was the promoter of Axis IT & T Limited. The company, now known as AXISCADES, has a wholly owned subsidiary named Axis Mechanical Engineering Design Co. Ltd, based in Wuxi, China.

Congress pointed out that when Türkiye faced backlash, China’s similar support to Pakistan had largely gone unaddressed by the ruling BJP party. According to a Guardian report, during the escalation, Pakistan had utilised Chinese-made J-10C fighter jets and PL-15 missiles, marking the first known combat use of these aircraft. Other military support includes advanced aircraft, radar, and electronic warfare systems.
