
Jamia Joins JNU Amid 'Boycott Turkey' Calls; Suspends MoU With Turkish Institutes
Following Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)’s lead, another central university, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, has suspended the MoU with institutions of the Republic of Turkey, considering national security matter. On May 14, JNU suspended an MoU with Inonu University, Turkey, citing national security concerns after the India-Pakistan conflict.
Jamia Millia Islamia said that the decision was taken due to national security considerations. Any MoU between Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye has been suspended with immediate effect, until further orders.

Jamia Millia Islamia reiterated its stand to firmly stand with the Nation.
Due to national security considerations, any Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect, until further orders.

‘Boycott Turkey’ calls have emerged from all across the country after Turkey allegedly supplied drones to Pakistan during India-Pakistan conflict after India launched targeted strikes on terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

While in a stark contrast to JNU, which suspended MoU with Inonu University, Jamia Millia Islamia has suspended all its MoU with institutions associated with government of Turkey.
However, amid calls from India to boycott Turkey and Azerbaijan, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has once again reiterated its support for Pakistan. Referring to PM Shehbaz Sharif, Erdogan showed continued solidarity saying Turkey would stand by Pakistan in “good times and bad”.
