More Than Rs 43 Crore Spent On International Yoga Day This Year: RTI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated International Yoga Day in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar on June 21, an event that has garnered massive national and global attention.

An RTI was filed by Amaravati-based activist Ajay Bose to obtain information regarding the government’s expenditure on information, Education, Communication and International Yoga Day.

The reply received from the Ministry of Ayush revealed that an amount of Rs 43.2 crore was spent on International Yoga Day. Sharing the information on X, RTI activist Ajay Bose wrote, “RTI reply received from Ministry of @moayush GOI reveals Rs 43.2 Crores spent on Information, Education, Communication & International Yoga Day # PM @narendramodi had participated in International Yoga Day at Dal Lake Srinagar on 21/6/24”.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been leading the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga with different themes since its inception on June 21, 2015, which has been followed globally.

Experts say that the selection of Jammu and Kashmir for the 10th International Day of Yoga held political significance. The visit took place just weeks after he took oath as the prime minister for a third straight term. Apart from that, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly election is scheduled to be held later this year.

Earlier, Ajay Bose’s RTI seeking information regarding the spending for the swearing ceremony of the Prime minister brought to light that an amount of Rs 81,79,386 was spent on just electrical works for the ceremony.
