PM Modi Leads International Yoga Day From Vizag: President Murmu Joins Mass Session In Dehradun

As the world observed the 11th International Yoga Day on June 21, India once again took centre stage in showcasing yoga not merely as a physical exercise, but as a holistic lifestyle.

Led by President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and several state leaders, the nation collectively celebrated the ancient Indian practice on account of Yoga Day.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the national-level International Yoga Day celebrations from Vizag (Visakhapatnam), Andhra Pradesh. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister emphasised the transformative power of yoga, calling it “India’s timeless gift to humanity.” He performed yoga asanas along with thousands of participants by the seafront, highlighting the harmony between nature and inner well-being.

In his address, PM Modi stated: “Yoga is not just an exercise, it is a way of life that promotes balance, discipline, and unity. The world continues to embrace it as a path to sustainable health and peace.”

President Droupadi Murmu led a mass yoga session at the Dehradun Police Lines in Uttarakhand. Governor Gurmit Singh and Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal joined her. The event witnessed an inspiring display of unity and wellness, with hundreds participating in synchronised postures under expert guidance.

Uttarakhand, widely regarded as the birthplace and spiritual home of yoga, celebrated the occasion with remarkable scale and depth. At Bharadisain in Karnaprayag, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami performed yoga alongside more than 800 participants.

On this significant day, the Chief Minister also unveiled Uttarakhand’s first official Yoga Policy, highlighting the state’s commitment to becoming a global hub for yogic education and practice.

Dignitaries present included Health Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, MLA Anil Nautiyal, internationally acclaimed yoga guru Bharat Bhushan, and diplomats from several countries.

Uttarakhand’s celebration was not limited to urban centres. Temples, schools, community centres, and high-altitude outposts all became venues for yoga. Even at the sacred Char Dham sites, devotees and priests alike participated in early morning yoga sessions. ITBP jawans stationed in remote Himalayan borders also joined the movement.
