NIA Secures 97.08% Conviction Rate In 5 Years: Govt

New Delhi: In the last five years, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a remarkable conviction rate of 97.08%, the government informed the parliament on Tuesday (August 5).

In response to questions raised by Lok Sabha MP Dr Mohammed Jawed, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai shared information regarding cases registered by enforcement agencies, their conviction rates, and the value of confiscated cash and properties.

“During the last 05 years, the number of individuals convicted in the cases registered by NIA is 367 and the conviction rate is 97.08%,” the Rai informed the parliament.

NIA has registered 59, 61, 73, 68, 80 and 32 cases in the year 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 (till 30.06.2025) respectively, the Minister said.

“During the last 05 years, an amount of Rs. 114.11 crore has been confiscated/attached by NIA, out of which properties worth Rs. 29,31,500 have been realised from the convicted persons,” the Minister added.

In his reply, Rai disclosed that while the NIA has confiscated or attached properties totaling ₹114.11 crore, the amount of ₹29,31,500 has been successfully recovered from those who were convicted.

In another query, the Minister shared information about vacant posts in the NIA. The agency has 1,901 sanctioned posts across various ranks, with a total of 541 positions currently vacant.

“As of June 30, 2025, a total of 541 posts remain vacant across various ranks in the NIA,” the Minister said.
