"No Justification": Omar Abdullah On Grenade Attack Targeting Srinagar Market

There have been several incidents of encounters and terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir in the recent couple of weeks. Showing a notable shift in the manner of target, a crowded market has been attacked on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir’s capital city, Srinagar. At least 12 civilians sustained injuries in the blast caused by a grenade and the victims have been shifted to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital (SMHS) for treatment, according to a report by Hindustan Times.

The grenade attack occurred near the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, causing panic and confusion in the area.

Reacting to the incident, the newly-elected Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, Omar Abdullah, called it “deeply disturbing”. He highlighted that the last few days have been dominated by headlines of attacks and encounters in parts of the valley.

“Today’s news of a grenade attack on innocent shoppers at the ‘Sunday market’ in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. There can be no justification for targeting innocent civilians,” the chief minister stated, adding that the security apparatus must do everything possible to end the spurt of attacks at the earliest. “So that people can go about their lives without any fear,” Abdullah wrote on his X post.
