No Wonder Chinese State Media Has Praise For Prime Minister Modi: Congress Lists Out Reasons

Taking a dig at the cheerleaders who are celebrating the comment made by Chinese state media about India, praising the Prime Minister for what it calls the development of the “Bharat narrative,” Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh took to Twitter saying that the drummers of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi are proudly promoting the comments made by China’s official media comes as no surprise.

Chinese state media, The Global Times recently praised India”s Prime Minister Modi citing India”s developments in a variety of fields.

Jairam also shared a statement issued by him as chief of communication in charge of Congress party, listing out the reasons why the prime minister got praise from China as the prime minister is acting for China. The statement listed out five points, each accusing Modi of working for Chinese interests.

The statement accused the prime minister of giving a clean chit to the China on 19 June 2020 with the prime minister’s public statement: “No one has intruded into our territory” which contradicted government statements about the circumstances that led to 20 Indian soldiers’ death in a combat with the Chinese army there. An army chief had pointed out that India can no longer access 26 out of 65 patrolling points that it patrolled before 2020. The statement called the development “a grave insult to our soldier.”

As the second reason why Chinese media praised the prime minister, the statement says that Prime Minister Modi allowed India to hold joint military drills in Russia with the same Chinese troops who are occupying our territory In Ladakh. The statement then accused the prime minister of letting China gain influence in Maldives, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka at India’s expense. “The Maldivian request to withdraw Indian troops from its territory is a major setback to Indian national security,” the statement added. The statement also elaborated how China cemented its presence and security build-up in Sri Lanka and Bhutan while the Indian prime minister focused on securing contacts for his cronies.

The statement further attributed the Chinese media praise for India”s facilitation of rapid imports from China, despite having the promises of “make in India.,” and alleged that the government is trying to stoke national pride while “undermining the national interests” of India.

Lastly, the statement reminded the public of a promise made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat in 2018, saying that he will make a force to fight China on the border. It was not mobilisation of forces to fight the Chinese but RSS hosted a group of Chinese diplomats at its headquarters in Nagpur. “Despite the external ministry saying that the relationship with China is not normal, the PM’s accommodation of Chinese interest is “truly abnormal.,” the statement added.

The statement ended with a note that no wonder the “Chinese state media has only words prise for him.”
