Chinese President Is Not Travelling To India For G20 Summit: Report

"The Chinese President is not travelling to India for G20 summit" : said people familiar with development

While the G20 summit is around the corner, Beijing is yet to confirm President Xi Jinping”s visit for the event in New Delhi. According to people familiar with the development, it is almost certain that Premier Li Qiang will attend the conclave representing the country.

“The Chinese President is not travelling to India for G20 summit” said the people cited above.

Mr. Xi is also likely to skip Association of SouthEast Asian Nations ( ASEAN) and East Asia summit in Jarkata next week.

Premier Li Qiang will directly fly to New Delhi after attending the East Asia summit in Jakarta.

However, there is no official declaration from both China and India regarding who will attend from China in the upcoming G20 summit.

“The level of attendance at global summits varies from year to year. In today”s world with so many demands on leaders time, it is not always possible for every leader to attend every summit”, quoted PTI quoted the source cited above.

“There are some media report that some heads of the states may skip the G20 summit in India”, a person from source cited above said.
“These things do not reflect anything about the host country”, he added.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has already reported his absence on the summit due to “special military operation” in Ukarine. Mr. Putin had also skipped G20 summit of Bali in last November.

As per the report by Reuters, the summit in India had been seen as a venue for a possible meeting between Mr. Xi and U.S. President Joe Biden as the relation between two superpowers sourced by trade and geopolitical tensions are dead on the water. Mr.Xi and Mr. Biden last met on the sidelines of G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia.

Mr. Xi”s visit to India is seen crucial as both the countries are on tight rope as the tension between the two countries continue to be hot on LAC (Line of Actual Control).

The Republic Of China recently published a “standard map” of the country which included Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh of India, which only added more fuel to the already burning tensions.
