Parliament Winter Session To Be Held From December 4 To December 22

The winter session of the Parliament will begin on December 4 and continue until December 22. This announcement was made by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi through his X handle. The winter session, which will take place in the new parliament, will have 15 sittings. The winter session has been scheduled for a span of 19 days.

“Amid Amrit Kaal looking forward to discussions on Legislative Business and other items during the session,” wrote the Parliamentary Affairs Minister on his X handle. Notably, the winter session will commence just a day after the announcement of the results of the assembly elections in five states. The election results in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and Mizoram will be announced on December 3. Usually, the Winter Session of Parliament starts in November, but this time it has been deferred due to the ongoing elections.

During the upcoming Parliament session, three key bills that seek to replace the Indian Penal Code, the Code of Criminal Procedure, and the Evidence Act are likely to be taken up for consideration. Another important bill pending is to the appointment of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners. Meanwhile, the Parliament also witnessed a special session from September 18 to 22. The Women’s Reservation Bill was passed during this session. The historic bill seeks to reserve one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women.
