Policeman Injured Amid Clash With Protesters; Tear Gas And Lathi Charge Against Farmers

During a clash in Haryana”s Hisar today (Friday) between protesting farmers and the police, a policeman got injured when the situation turned into chaos, with farmers throwing stones and police firing tear gas.

The chaos started when the police stopped the protesting farmers from marching to Khanauri on the Punjab border, firing tear gas shells. The protesters then reportedly started pelting stones at the police, forcing them to resort to the lathi charge.

The protesters were moving to join farmers at the Shambhu border for the “Delhi Chalo” march demanding their several demands including the Minimum Support Price (MSP) among various others.

A 62-year-old farmer had died due to a cardiac arrest today morning during the march, causing the second farmer’s death since the protest began. A 21-year-old farmer, Subhkaran Singh died on Wednesday after a clash with police. He was declared dead when rushed to the hospital after sustaining a bullet injury, according to reports.

The farmer”s leaders had asked the government to register a murder case against the person responsible for the Subhkaran Singh”s death from a bullet injury. The farmers had also decided not to cremate the 21-year-old deceased’s body till the government register case. However, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has assured the registration of cases after the post-mortem, stating that the responsible people will face “stringent” action.

However, an NDTV report says that the farmers told the media house that they had brought enough food to sustain themselves for almost six months and would only go back after the government addressed their demands. Though the government has held several talks with the farmers, none of them reached an agreement. It is reported that another round of talks will be happening soon.

The farmers today observed black day and burnt effigies of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij as they declared yesterday. They have also announced a countrywide tractors march on February 26.

Meanwhile, the Haryana police said that two police officers have died and around 30 were injured during the farmer’s march, Business Today reported.
