Pune Porsche Accident: Accused Driver Vedant Agarwal's Bail Cancelled

Days after a court granted bail to Vedant Agarwal, the 17-year-old driver of the speeding Porsche that hit a bike from behind, killing two young engineers, the Pune juvenile court today canceled the bail.

The bail granted to the accused driver on trivial conditions such as writing an essay, and working with traffic police for 15 days among others, had created strong public outrage.

However, the Juvenile Justice Board has remanded Vedant, the son of the prominent businessman Vishal Agarwal to a rehabilitation home or observation home till June 5.

The collision in which, the lives of 24-year-old Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta were lost, reportedly happened due to the minor”s rash driving. Vedant, who does not possess a driving license, was under the influence of alcohol when he was riding the high-end luxury car.

As the Court granted bail within hours after arresting the accused driver on Sunday, the public had began slamming the Court”s action, noting the gravity of the incident. Locals also called for the arrest of the parents for providing the car to their minor son,

As the incident grabbed headlines in major media outlets, politicians also began to intervene, and as of late, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today, expressed his anger over the bail condition, and asked the Court if it “asks the bus drivers, truck drivers, and tempo drivers to write an essay too.” He was addressing an event in Panchkula, Haryana.

Yesterday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut also voiced his concern, accusing the police of helping to protect the son of the business tycoon. Raut also demanded the suspension of the police commissioner. However, after the Court granted bail, the police had said that it would move the upper Court for the minor to be considered as an adult.
