Punjab & Haryana HC Stays Maintenance Order To Wife Accused Of Attempting To Kill Husband
Punjab and Haryana High Court recently stayed an order that directed a man to pay interim maintenance to his wife who is accused of attempting to kill him.
In 2025, an Additional Principal Judge, Family Court had directed the husband to pay a monthly amount of Rs 5,000 to his wife as interim maintenance. However, the husband moved the High Court against the order to provide maintenance, pointing out that since the inception of the marriage in 2019, there has been matrimonial discord between the parties, and the wife even attempted to kill him.

“In the meantime, operation of the impugned order dated 25.8.2025 shall remain stayed” the High Court ruled. The had submitted that on May 13 night when he was lying on his bed and about to fall asleep, the wife poured an inflammable liquid over him, resulting into 45 per cent burn injuries on his body.
The husband counsel added that he remained under treatment for more than four months. The counsel further pointed out that a criminal case was registered against her in this regard, highlighting that the wife was also denied anticipatory bail by the Courts, including the Supreme Court, but remained absconding for over a year.

The counsel further argued that the wife iled a petition under Section 125 Cr.P.C. for seeking maintenance to delay the trial after the initiation of trial for attempt to murder.
