The executive director of Godfrey Phillips, Samir Modi, accused his mother of orchestrating an attack on him, said media report. Samir lodged a police complaint with the Delhi police on Friday. He alleged that his mother’s personal security officer (PSO), and several other directors of the company caused him “grievous hurt”, when he tried to enter a scheduled board meeting held at the company’s Jasola office in Delhi.
The new case has intensified the existing one regarding the late KK Modis Rs 11,000 crore inheritance, said Economics Times. Samir Modi said he was prevented from entering to the media house by Bina Modi’s PSO, who tried to push him when he tried to enter the meeting. The confrontation has caused him sustaining a broken index finger.
However, Modi Samir attended the meeting despite the injury, which later required a screw and wire to be put together. In the complaint filed at the Sarita Vihar police station, he said that he may not regain the full function of his finger again.
“The screw used to fix the finger will stay with me for a lifetime and my right-hand index finger will never be wholly functional, I am informed by the medical practitioners”, said Samir. While speaking to media, Samir said he never imagined getting assaulted in his own office. He further added that while the court case on the settlement of shares is still pending, he will not sell the stake. He said the move is to remove him from the board, which h swear will not happen.
Samir suspect that the attack was premeditated to stop him from attending the meeting and pressuring him into selling his stake. He said it was intended to prevent him from fulfilling his duties as a director of the company. Despite his mother’s previous offer to buy hi stake through mediator, he has now resolved that he will not agree to an exit from the company.
At the same time, a spokesperson of the Godfrey Phillips denied the allegations, and labelled it “entirely false and atrocious”. The spokesperson added that the incident was recorded in the in-house CCTV cameras
The family feud of the Modi family has started since the death of KK Modi, involving significant shareholding in Godfrey Phillips and other companies. The son has accused his mother of not distributing funds as stipulated in a trust deed executed by his father. The case is currently pending in the Supreme Court.
