Singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripaada slammed the public event launching poet and national award-winning lyricist Vairamuthu”s book titled “Maga Kavithai” on Monday. The event was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, actor Kamal Haasan, and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram. Chinmayi has raised sexual harassment allegations against Vairamuthu, and for over 5 years she has been fighting the case against him.
Chinmayi on social media expressed her discontentment concerning the presence of eminent and powerful personalities attending the book launch event. She wrote on X (formerly twitter): “Some of the most powerful men in Tamilnadu platforming my molester whilst I got banned – years of my career lost. May the entire ecosystem that promotes and supports sex offenders whilst incarcerating honest people who speak up start getting destroyed from this very moment, onwards and beyond. I ll pray and keep praying until my wish comes true – there is nothing else I can do anyway.”

In another post, singer also asks: “Just check the number of politicians with Vairamuthu alone. How does one get justice in this ecosystem?”

Many people on social media came in support to the singer. Acclaimed poet and novelist, Dr Meena Kandasamy condemning the event, wrote: “NEW YEAR but same old same old”. A user named @i_sreenivas wrote on X: “So so sad to see the TN CM enabling a well known predator like this on New Year’s Day. Nadu centre leader who wants to bring a change to the TN politics is seen applauding nearby.
It was in October 2018, at the height of the #MeToo movement in India, Chinmayi accused the Vairamuthu of sexual misconduct. In a series of tweets posted on X, Chinmayi recounted how he harassed her and intimidated by yielding political power.
