
Tragic Ahmedabad Plane Crash: 5 Key Pointers
Ahmedabad, Gujarat: One of the biggest aircraft crashes in the country, an Air India flight to London, crashed immediately after take-off near the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday afternoon, June 12. The flight carried 230 passengers and 12 crew members. Fire and rescue operations are underway.
The former Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani reportedly was among the passengers of the Air India plane that crashed in Ahmedabad.

Five Important Pointers About Ahmedabad Plane Crash
- The aircraft, a twin-jet Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed into a residential area (Meghani nagar) moments after taking off at 1:38 p.m. from the Ahmedabad airport. With total 242 people onboard, multiple casualties are feared.
- As per ATC, the aircraft departed from Ahmadabad at 1339 IST (0809 UTC) from runway 23. The plane had reached around 825 feet when it suddenly crashed at around 1.30 local time.
- Quoting eyewitnesses, journalist Swati Chaturvedi reported that the plane apparently collided with the Ahmedabad airport boundary wall seconds in to take off.
- The aircraft was under the command of a pilot, Capt. Sumeet Sabharwal, who is an LTC with 8,200 hours of experience, and the co-pilot had 1,100 hours of flying experience.
- At least three NDRF teams, comprising 90 personnel, have been deployed to the crash site from Gandhinagar, and three additional teams are being moved from Vadodara. The airline had set up a hotline number – 1800 5691 444 for passengers’ support.
