PM Modi Sanctions Tribal University In Telangana: Jairam Ramesh Counters

Shortly after the Union government announced the sanctioning of Central Tribal University in poll-bound Telangana, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said the PM took 9.5 years to consider the matter of the University which gained the assent of the Indian President in 2014.

It was on Sunday, Prime Minister announced that the central government has sanctioned a Central Tribal University in the Mulugu district of Telangana as well as a National Turmeric Board for the turmeric farmers in the state. Mr Modi was addressing a public meeting in Telangana”s Mahbubnagar district.

Countering Mr Modi and his arguments, Jairam Ramesh on Sunday took his X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared a copy of the Thirteenth Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, provided for the Union government to establish a tribal university in Telangana in addition to the one in Andhra Pradesh.

“The Prime Minister has promised to set up a tribal university in Telangana. Does he even know that Item 3 in the Thirteenth Schedule of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 provided for the Union government to establish a tribal university in Telangana in addition to the one in Andhra Pradesh?”, wrote Mr Ramesh on X.

“It has taken 9.5 years and the prospects of a total washout in the forthcoming assembly elections in Telangana for the PM to wakeup”, he added.

The tribal university will be called  “Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University”, named after tribal goddesses Sammakka and Sarakka, and the Centre will spend Rs 900 crore to set it up, said the PM laying the foundation stone for various developmental projects over Rs 13,500 crore in Telangana, on Sunday.

“It is only the BJP which is devoted to serving the people of Telangana”, he said addressing a massive rally in Mahabubnagar.
