Amidst the ongoing truckers” protest against the imminent implementation of a criminal code, panic buying of petrol and diesel persists in different regions of Maharashtra. In response to the escalating situation, the Mumbai Police issued a statement urging the public not to crowd petrol, diesel, or CNG pumps and to refrain from engaging in panic buying. Emphasizing the need to disregard rumors, the police assured the public that Mumbai has ample stock of petroleum products, with adequate security measures in place for the tankers supplying these essentials. Authorities urge citizens to spread the word and cooperate to maintain order during these challenging times.
“Request not to throng Petrol / Diesel/CNG pumps and indulge into panic buying. Don’t believe in rumours. There is enough stock available in Mumbai and we are providing adequate security to the tankers supplying petroleum products in Mumbai. Please spread the word,” Mumbai Police said in a tweet.
Demonstrations have erupted across various states, such as Jammu and Kashmir, Bihar, Punjab, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh in last couple of days regarding the new law. The protests are in opposition to the increased penalties for hit-and-run accidents proposed in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, slated to replace the colonial-era Indian Penal Code.
