UP Digital Media Policy 2024: Rs 8 Lakh For Promoting Schemes, Jail For Objectionable Content

According to the latest digital media policy of the Uttar Pradesh government, people who would promote the government schemes and projects would be rewarded with amount upto Rs 8 lakh. The Uttar Pradesh digital media policy has been brought in to spread awareness about the government schemes to the general public with the help of social media.

As per the document doing the round in social media, the policy also stipulates that any “obscene”, “objectionable” and “anti-national” content could land them in jail for three years or even life imprisonment.

Aimed at regulating content across social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube, the policy states that a digital agency called ‘V-Form’ has been roped in to handle the advertisements. The agency will be responsible for showcasing videos, posts, reels, and tweets.

The policy details the specific payment limits set for influencers, account holders, and operators on social media platforms. The circulating document states that for X, Instagram and Facebook, the maximum monthly payment limits are set at Rs 5 lakh, Rs 4 lakh and Rs 3 lakh respectively.

For YouTube, the amount for videos, shorts, and podcasts are set at Rs 8 lakh, Rs 7 lakh, Rs 6 lakh, and Rs 4 lakh, respectively.

Influencers can get up to Rs 8 lakh every month for the same based on their followers and subscribers’ count.

Many criticized the scheme for being financially beneficial to IT cells, pro-establishment news reporters/anchors using taxpayers money in exchange for promoting government’s policies and works.
