In a horrific incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur, two girls – a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were found hanging in a tree, days after allegedly being raped by two men. As per reports, the girls were allegedly forced to drink liquor before being raped by 18 and 19-year old boys. They were also harassed, beaten and sexually assaulted, according to the victim’s family. The girls went missing on Wednesday and the families while searching found them hanging from a nearby plum tree.
One of the accused is the son of a local contractor while the other is his nephew and all three including the contractor have been arrested following the allegations of the victim’s family. According to the family, the girls took their lives due to the hurt and humiliation after they were raped and blackmailed with a video of the same.
According to the family, the accused made the video and used it to blackmail the girls. The police have recovered videos and photos of the girls from the phones of the accused, the police said today (Thursday). The family further alleged that it was due to the accused’s blackmailing that the girls took the extreme step.
Additional Police Commissioner Harish Chander said that the bodies of two girls were sent for postmortem to verify the cause of the death, and the accused, including the contractor, have been arrested. The police have however charged the accused with gang rape and abetment of suicide, as well as those under the POCSO Act, as per the police.
