According to recent research from LinkedIn, a significant majority of Indian professionals, approximately 81%, are acutely aware of the impending transformation that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will bring to their jobs. Furthermore, an impressive 71% of Indian professionals are eager to adapt and learn more about AI, even if they are unsure where to start.
LinkedIn conducted this study across India, and in response to these findings, the platform has made its AI courses freely accessible until December 15, 2023.
Notably, the research revealed that AI is not merely a concept but is already being integrated into workplaces. Approximately 68% of the Indian workforce acknowledges using generative AI in their job, with half of these professionals (50%) actively experimenting with generative AI tools like ChatGPT. The utilization of these AI tools is particularly prominent among millennials (54%), closely followed by Gen Z professionals (46%).
The survey also suggests that Indian professionals are displaying a high level of curiosity and enthusiasm about the future, with 66% expressing a desire to increase their knowledge of AI. This drive to stay informed might be influenced by the fact that 65% believe their colleagues possess a better understanding of AI than they do.
When asked about the ways AI could enhance their careers, 57% of the professionals mentioned that it would boost their confidence at work by providing quicker access to knowledge. Moreover, 43% believed that AI could expedite their career progress, allowing them to focus on tasks that add more value. Many professionals are already contemplating how AI can make them more productive, with 79% planning to use AI to solve problems and overcome work- challenges. Additionally, 74% anticipate that AI will handle mundane tasks, allowing them to concentrate on the aspects of their job that excite them the most. Career advancement is a prime motivator, with 75% of professionals planning to utilize AI for career advice.
AI also holds the promise of improving work-life balance, according to more than half of India”s workforce. Specifically, 55% believe that AI can make their jobs easier, increasing job satisfaction, while 74% see it as a means to attain better work-life balance. As AI takes over repetitive tasks, professionals hope to experience increased job satisfaction and an enhanced quality of life.
Furthermore, professionals are keen on using their newfound free time to strengthen their professional networks (45%) and acquire new skills relevant to their jobs (48%).
Nirajita Banerjee, LinkedIn’s India Editorial Lead and Career Expert, observes that generative AI is gaining prominence in the workplace, marking an era of change. Although adapting to these changes may present challenges, it is promising to see professionals focusing on the positive contributions AI can make to their working lives. An impressive 90% of professionals in India believe that AI will become an invisible partner in the next five years. With their time freed up, many are looking to invest in themselves by acquiring new skills, focusing on more creative and strategic work, and expanding their professional networks – all of which are strong career boosters.
