NCS Portal Surpasses 2 Million Active Vacancies, Expanding Employment Opportunities

The National Career Service (NCS) Portal of the Ministry of Labour and Employment has reached a significant milestone by surpassing 2 million active vacancies as of 30th July 2024, a statement from Government of India said. This achievement, according to the ministry, highlights the platform’s growing role in bridging the gap between job seekers and employment opportunities across various sectors.

The increased acceptance and attraction of the NCS portal among recruiters is attributed to the Ministry’s persistent efforts and regular interactions with employers, industry bodies, and staffing agencies, the statement said.

The NCS portal offers a wide range of employment-related services, including job search and matching, career counselling, vocational guidance, information on skill development courses, and internships. These services support various stakeholders, such as job seekers, employers, employment exchanges, counsellors, training providers, educational institutions, and placement organisations.

The portal has become an important resource for job seekers, with vacancies mobilised through direct reporting by employers, job fairs, and API integration with several private job portals. The available job opportunities span multiple industry sectors, including finance and insurance (14.7 lakhs), operations and support (1.08 lakh), other service activities (0.75 lakh), manufacturing (0.71 lakh), transport and storage (0.59 lakh), IT and communication (0.58 lakh), education (0.43 lakh), wholesale and retail (0.25 lakh), and health (0.2 lakh). This diverse range of vacancies reflects the broad spectrum of employment needs and industry demands across the country.

Most current job openings are suitable for candidates with educational backgrounds up to 12th standard, ITI, and diploma holders. Specialised positions are also available for individuals with higher education or other expert qualifications. This wide array of vacancies underscores the NCS Portal’s commitment to catering to different skill levels and professional expertise.

This milestone achievement demonstrates the NCS Portal’s growing influence in fostering a dynamic and robust labour market, providing a critical platform for employment opportunities and career development, the statement said.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment said it is continuously working to improve the NCS portal, with plans to upgrade it to NCS 2.0, incorporating advanced technologies like Artificial Intelligence. This upgrade aims to provide more benefits and features to all stakeholders, especially job seekers and employers.
