UP PCS (J) 2022 Result 'Requires Serious Consideration': Allahabad High Court

The Allahabad High Court expressed raised concern over the allegations of a scam and foul play in the 2022 Provincial Civil Services (Judicial) Examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission. A petition was filed in the court arguing about the discrepancies far exceeding the 50 candidates initially admitted by the UPPSC.

The petitioner has demanded stringent actions against UPPSC officers involved in the matter, lodging an FIR and CBI investigation of the matter, and formation of a High-Powered Committee to investigate and supervise the matter. The advocates representing the petitioners said that the list of affected candidates is far more extensive than the UPPSC has acknowledged.

On August 30, 2024, UPPSC issued a revised result of PCS (J) canceling the selection of two candidates and recommending two new candidates. The decision was taken on a sue motu basis following a tallying of marks, however, the petitioners have argued that the revision is only a fraction of the irregularities and said that many more candidates were affected by the alleged manipulation of results.

A bench of Justice Saumitra Dayal Singh and Justice Donadi Ramesh questioned the release of the result by UPPSC while the petition is still pending before the court which ‘requires serious consideration’. The court rasied concer about whether the commission had acted within its authority and whether  it was approprite to revise results once the appointments were made already and candidates had joined their posts.
