Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: A bomb threat email sent to the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Sunday has triggered a full-scale security operation.

According to airport officials, the threat was received in the early hours via email, prompting the immediate deployment of bomb disposal squads and intense checks across all airport terminals.

Security teams, including bomb detection and disposal units, have been conducting thorough inspections throughout the day.

The airport’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) confirmed to the media that enhanced safety measures were put in place soon after the threat was received.

This comes just a day after similar email threats were sent to several luxury hotels in Thiruvananthapuram, including the centrally located Hilton Hotel.

On Saturday, police, bomb squads, and sniffer dog units combed through hotel premises across the city but found no explosives. Authorities later confirmed those threats to be hoaxes.

A senior officer from the Cantonment police station told the media, “Although the emails are alarming, all locations were cleared after detailed inspections. We are now focused on tracing the origin of these emails.”

Over the past few months, Kerala has witnessed a string of hoax bomb threats via email, targeting sensitive locations such as district collectorates, Revenue Divisional Offices, and even the Kerala High Court.

So far, none of these threats have been found to be genuine, but the repeated nature of the incidents has kept security forces on high alert.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, assuring that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety. Investigations into the source of the threat emails are ongoing.
