Congress In Kerala Gets New Leadership
The Indian National Congress has announced a significant reshuffle in its Kerala leadership, appointing Adv. Sunny Joseph, MLA from Peravoor, as the new President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC). This move comes as part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the party’s state unit ahead of the upcoming local body and assembly elections.
Sunny Joseph, a seasoned politician and advocate, has been serving as the MLA for Peravoor since 2011. His appointment is seen as an effort to bolster the party’s appeal among the Christian community, a crucial demographic in Kerala’s political landscape. The Catholic Church had reportedly advocated for Joseph’s elevation, emphasizing the need for adequate representation within the party’s hierarchy.

In addition to Joseph’s appointment, the Congress has named Adoor Prakash, MP from Attingal, as the new Convenor of the United Democratic Front (UDF). Prakash brings a wealth of experience, having held various ministerial positions in the Kerala government, including portfolios such as Health, Revenue, and Food and Civil Supplies. His recent re-election to the Lok Sabha underscores his continued relevance in Kerala’s political arena.
The party has also appointed three Working Presidents to the KPCC: P.C. Vishnunadh, MLA from Kundara; A.P. Anil Kumar, MLA from Wandoor; and Shafi Parambil, MP from Vadakara. Vishnunadh, a former AICC Secretary, has been relieved of his current responsibilities to focus on his new role. These appointments aim to infuse fresh energy into the party’s state leadership and ensure a more inclusive representation across different communities and regions.
The Congress has expressed its appreciation for the contributions of the outgoing KPCC President, K. Sudhakaran, MP, and the former UDF Convenor, M.M. Hassan. Acknowledging their efforts, the party also thanked the outgoing Working Presidents, Kodikkunnil Suresh, MP; T.N. Prathapan; and T. Siddique, MLA, for their service.
