Kochi, Kerala: A man from Vennala South in Kochi has been arrested after he allegedly buried his mother at their house compound without informing the relatives.
According to the police, 50-year-old son Pradeep is currently under preventive detention, as he claimed that his mother had a natural death. Pradeep told the police that he came to know about the death only in the morning. “We have registered a case for unnatural death under BNSS section 194. After the postmortem report is available, we will alter charges if required,” The New Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying.

According to the neighbors, Pradeep was alcoholic and mentally unstable, often creating troubles. It was the neighbors who found Pradeep burying something similar to a dead body in a pit dug by himself in front of the house at around 8 am. The neighbors then informed Palarivattom police.
Pradeep’s mother was a diabetic patient, and he had taken his ailing mother to the hospital on Wednesday. The doctor had reportedly recommended amputation on his mother’s leg, which had remained unhealed for months.

Pradeep’s wife had left him three months ago, and he is reported to have often engaged in quarrels at his home under the influence of alcohol. The couple had two sons, and the younger son was staying with him. Pradeep’s father died several years ago, and his sister is living in Kangarapady.
Police have shifted the body to Ernakulam Medical College in Kalamassery for conducting the postmortem. The exact cause of the death can only be ascertained once the postmortem report is out.
