To celebrate Sir Syed Day, Aligarh Muslim University Kerala alumni organised a meet for batches spanning from 1955 to 2025. The event was held under the banner of Aligarh Muslim University Old Students’ Association Kerala (AMUOSAK) on Sunday, at Kottakkal Peace Public School, Malappuram. The programme underscored that all the Aligarians (Aligs) should be committed to be the next link of educational and cultural revival by copying the thoughts of the great social mission shown by Sir Syed.
Aligarh University has played an important role in the development of modern education in India, development of nationalism of the country and nurturing of freedom, equality and fraternity, said Adv Harris Beeran MP.
Former Education Minister of Kerala PK Abdurrabb, Chairman of Mapilakala Academy Dr. Hussain Randathani, Almas Group of Institutions Director P.A. Kabir, Peace Public School Principal Jauhar, Captain (Dr) Abdul Hameed among others attended the event.
The speakers at the event reminisced how Aligarh Muslim University was a dream come true of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. They also stressed that the University is the symbol of renaissance. Sir Syed, according to the speakers, worked bravely and determinedly for uplifting the community, was a personality of exceptional strength, and was a force of nature who faced struggles head on.
At the Sir Syed Day celebration, the iconic Tarana of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was performed. The team delivered a soul-stirring performance during the celebration. The rendition of the Tarana, “Ye mera chaman hai mera chaman, main apne chaman ka bulbul huṅ”, was the highlight of the event. The performance took the audience of alumni walk back the memory lane of their cherished days in the prestigious University.
The Tarana, originally penned in 1936 by famed Urdu poet Asrar-ul-Haq Majaz, holds a special place in the hearts of AMU students.
Composed as Nazr-e-Aligarh, it was set to music in 1954 and has since become the university’s anthem, symbolizing the pride and legacy of AMU across generations.
The Tarana Team featured Aysha (M.Sc. Physics, B.Ed, 2004-08), Shafeeq (M.Com, 2011-13), Dr. Muhammad Shafi (Ph.D., 2005-09). Dr. Thasneem Fathima (M.Tech, 2008-10), Rashid MP (M.Com, 2009-11), Jumshida (M.Sc. Chemistry, 2004-06), TMS Noufal (M.A., B.Ed, 1997-2000), Shamlika Mariyam (B.A. Hons Social Work, 2020-22), Muhammed Ashiq (M.A. Economics, 2013-15), and Abdul Muneer (B.A. Urdu, B.Ed, 2010-13).
