Aligarh, August 12: Prof Najmul Islam, Department of Biochemistry, J.N. Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been appointed Chairman of his department for a period from August 13, 2024 to April 15, 2026, the date of his superannuation, or till a decision otherwise is made by the university on the basis of a report by the committee instituted by the AMU Vice Chancellor to look into the chairmanship issue.
Prof Islam has been engaged in teaching and research for over the last 30 years. He has published more than 75 research papers in international peer reviewed journals, with more than 2270 citations with i10 index 36 and h-index 22.
He is the Fellow of Indian Academy for Biomedical Sciences, Lucknow and also served as the Post Doctoral Fellow, Department of Biotechnology, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and the Division of Rheumatology, Department of Orthopedics and Division of Infectious Diseases, School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
He has also served as the Joint Secretary, Vice President and President of Indian Academy of Biomedical Sciences, an elected member of AMU Court and Academic Council, and as the elected Honorary Secretary, AMU Teacher’s Association. He has served as the Chairman of his department earlier as well.
