Pattambi, Kerala: A Hindu, who bravely stood for a Muslim shop owner and became a national sensation, has been reverberating across the country both online and offline since the Bajrang Dal incident occurred last month in Uttarakhand. Deepak, a gym owner, stole the hearts in the Kotdwar incident, when he defended a Muslim shopkeeper after Bajrang Dal, a hardline Hindu group, tried to harass the elderly Muslim man.

Though the incident happened in Uttarakhand, a regional festival in Kerala’s Palakkad district has raised issues, highlighting Deepak along with the Muslim man, honoring the gym owner’s bravery and intervention to protest secularism and solidarity in the country.
