Kozhikode Murder: Youth Kills Teenage Cousin, Then Dies By Suicide In Chilling Turn Of Events
A quiet neighbourhood in Kozhikode is still reeling in shock a day after a deeply disturbing domestic tragedy claimed two young lives.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded in Poothamkuzhi, East Moozhikkal, where 16-year-old Nasrina was found murdered inside her home, allegedly by her 20-year-old cousin Adnan, who later died by suicide.
According to police and local sources, Adnan had grown up in the same household as Nasrina, sharing a close bond during their early years.
However, tensions began to rise in recent months following a series of disputes within the family.

The situation escalated when Nasrina reportedly discovered that Adnan had been stealing money from the house. Around ₹40,000 was later recovered from his cupboard, after which he was asked to leave the home nearly six months ago.
Neighbours say that after being distanced from the family, Adnan moved to another area nearby, but the emotional fallout appeared to linger.
On Monday night, the situation took a tragic turn. Police say Adnan allegedly entered the house using a duplicate key. CCTV visuals indicate that he attempted to disable or redirect security cameras before hiding inside the house for several hours, waiting for the family members to fall asleep.
In the early hours of Tuesday, he is believed to have entered Nasrina’s room and strangled her using a shawl. Reports also state that he used adhesive tape to silence her during the attack.
The family discovered Nasrina unconscious soon after and rushed her to the hospital, but doctors declared her dead on arrival. During the chaos, relatives managed to restrain Adnan and lock him inside a room before leaving for the hospital.
However, when police later reached the house and opened the room, Adnan was found dead. Officials confirmed that he died by suicide, reportedly using tape in a manner that caused fatal asphyxiation.
Merin Joseph, City Police Commissioner, stated that medical experts have confirmed the cause of death and ruled out foul play in Adnan’s case. She added that extreme emotional distress can sometimes lead to such tragic and unusual actions.
The police have initiated a detailed investigation and are awaiting further forensic reports. Statements from family members are also being recorded to understand the full sequence of events and underlying causes.
The bodies of both victims have been handed over to their families after postmortem examinations. Adnan’s funeral has already been conducted, while Nasrina’s final rites are expected to take place after her father returns from abroad.
