Lulu Group Chairman M.A. Yusuff Ali has stepped in to help a Kerala woman who was evicted from her home due to an unpaid loan. Sadhya and her two children faced foreclosure procedure at her home in Paravur, Kerala.

As per the local media, Sandhya’s husband had taken a loan from a private institution in 2019 to construct their home in North Paravur. They have taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh from Manappuram Finance, a Kerala-based Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC).

However, Sandhya’s husband left her and her children in 2021 and the repayment of the loan stopped thereafter, which led to the amount surging to Rs 8 lakh with interest. The NBFC said that soon after the repayment stopped, they started the foreclosure proceedings. Manappuram Finance also said that four warnings were given to Sandhya’s family.

Recently, Sandhya left for work at the cloth shop, after returning she found that NBFC officials had entered the home and replaced her locks. She was not allowed to take her belongings inside her home as well.

Soon after the news made headlines, the NBFC officials changed their stance and said it would allow the family to take hold of their belongings.

The sight of her family stranded on the road, sparked outrage among local. The media coverage of Sadhya’s story caught the attention of MA Yusuf Ali, the chairman of Lulu Group.

He immediately stepped into help the family and his intervention led the NBFC to return the keys of their home back to Sandhya. Lulu Group’s media coordinator Swaraj handed over the keys to Sandhya and her family. The family was also given an amount of Rs 10 lakh to start a fixed deposit.

Sandhya expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the billionaire, and said that without Yusuff Ali’s help, she and her children would have been in a desperate situation.
