
Malappuram: Tiger That Killed Tapping Worker In May Caught, Caged In Kalikavu
Malappuram, Kerala: On Sunday, July 6, a man-eater tiger which killed a rubber-tapping worker in May this year in Malappuram’s Kalikavu, was caught in one of the cages set up by the forest department.
Since May 15, the day the dead body of the rubber trapping workers was found near the Adakkakundu rubber estate, forest officials have been involved in an intensive search operation around the region.

The search team included three separate 20-member rapid response teams with tranquilisers and a veterinarian who had each been searching the forests.
The forest department has also deployed kumki elephants (trained captive tuskers) to look for the tiger in the area, in addition to setting up camera traps and thermal camera drones.

In one of the cages set up for the man-eater animal, the tiger got trapped in the early hours of Sunday. In May, officials identified the tiger as from the Silent Valley National Park using images captured by one of the camera traps set up in the area.
On May 15, rubber-tapping worker Gaffur’s body was found by another fellow tapping worker. The incident occurred when the 55-year-old man was on his way to tape rubber trees in the early morning.
The victim’s body was reportedly found dragged by the tiger during the attack. The body of the deceased person was found five kilometers away from the incident site within the forest, the news agency cited police officials.
