'Promised Marriage, Withdrew Citing Caste': Ex-Congress MP's Daughter Make Fresh Allegation Against Rahul Mamkootathil

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Fresh allegations have been made against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who resigned as Kerala Youth Congress President on Thursday following a series of harassment allegations by women members. In the latest case, a woman, daughter of a former Congress MP, claimed that Mamkootathil promised to marry her and later backed out due to caste issue.

The MLA, who won Palakkad constituency in the 2024 by-poll, allegedly pulled back from his promise to marry the woman, claiming that his family would not agree to their marriage because she was from a backward caste. In her complaint, submitted to the All India Congress Committee (AICC), the complainant woman claimed that Mamkootathil had visited her home multiple times with her family, giving warm treatment to him, reported local media, News Malayalam.

The former MP and the victim’s father had earlier submitted a complaint to the Congress leadership detailing that even his daughter’s pre-determined marriage was made to cancel in such circumstances. The Congress leadership had back then decided to take strict action against its youth leader; however, due to the intervention of some state leaders, the decision was set aside, the report said.

However, the party’s decision to finally force the youth leader to resign from the key post he held is being viewed as a positive step – at least to save its image from damage – ahead of the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for 2026.
