Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi visited landslide struck areas of Chooralmala in Wayanad on Thursday afternoon. Congress leaders arrived at Kannur airport at 9.30 am and then travelled to Wayanad by road. Congress General Secretary and Alappuzha MP KC Venugopal also accompanied them.
The relief and rescue operations continue on third day, as the death toll has increased to at least 276 with over 200 people injured. The massive landslides struck the hilly area, Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad in the early hours of July 30. The death toll is expected to rise as more bodies are discovered.

“After reaching the spot amidst the rain, Mr. Gandhi and his sister left for the Community Health Centre in Meppadi. From there, the two will then proceed to Dr. Moopen’s Medical College and two relief camps at Meppadi,” PTI quotes as party sources are saying.

Though they were scheduled to visit Wayanad on Wednesday due to bad weather they had to postpone their travel.
