Nipah Virus Back Again In Kerala: Sample Test Positive: Nipah Virus Confirmed In Kozhikode Man, State On High Alert
Kozhikode, Kerala: A man showing symptoms of the deadly Nipah virus has been admitted to a hospital in Kozhikode, raising concerns about a potential outbreak of the killer virus during the monsoon season. The patient’s samples have been tested positive, confirming the virus outbreak in the state.
State Health Minister V Muraleedharan said there is no need to panic, as the situation is under close medical supervision. The 43-year-old Feroke native showing Nipah-like symptoms is being monitored at the private hospital. Medical teams are strictly screening for fever and contact histories in the region to prevent any potential spillover.

Considered very serious due to its high mortality rate – approximately 40% to 75% -, the virus inflects severe neurological damages like encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), seizures, and coma, potentially leading to long-term neurological deficits in the victims.
Tre is no medication or vaccine to treat the infection, and managing symptoms is the only way to combat Nipah. The virus is usually transmitted from animals to humans and can also be infected through contaminated food.
