Thrissur Voters' List Tampering: Union Minister Suresh Gopi's Brother Accused Of Double Voting
Thrissur, Kerala: Days after District Congress Committee president Joseph Tajet alleged that Union Minister Suresh Gopi and his family members added their names to the voters’ list in Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, despite not being permanent residents there, it was revealed that the BJP leader’s brother, Subhash Gopi had votes in both Kollam and Trissur, multiple local media reported.
The Union Minister’s brother and his wife allegedly had double vote. Both had votes in Alathur Lok Sabha constituency, and the allegation is that both the person’s names were found in Thrissur voters’ list.
Earlier, there were reports that the union minister’s family, including his brother Subhash Gopi and his family, had added names to the voters’ list in Thrissur constituency during the recent Lok Sabha Elections.

Reacting to the development, Kerala education minister V Shivankutty demanded re-election in the constituency, noting that the BJP leader is afraid of confronting media on the alleged voters’ list tampering issue in his constituency.
Notably, a woman also came forward claiming at least nine fake voters have been registered against her residential address in Thrissur. She says she is the only person from her family who votes in Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency, which the BJP won in 2023 poll, the lone seat the saffron party managed to win.
Notably, the Congress leader had earlier sought a probe into the discrepancy, following the debate around voters’ list tampering issues raised by Rahul Gandhi. Tajet alleged that the tampering actually began in Thrissur to ensure the victory of Suresh Gopi, who contested on the BJP ticket.

He also alleged that though he raised the issue before the election, the then district collector said if a person’s name appears on the voters’ list, then he/she can vote, and no scrutiny was held to address the complaints.
The incidents unfolds on the backdrop of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s allegations regarding the alleged collusion of the BJP with the Election Commission to benefit the 2024 Lok Sabha poll result to the former. The Congress leader has accused the BJP of carrying out voter fraud in order to “steal” elections, sparking massive concerns regarding the integrity of the electoral system in the country.
