ULCCS Centenary LP School: 130-Year-Old Muttungal School Gets A Facelift

Kozhikode, Kerala: Muttungal LP School, a historic educational institution established in 1893, has been given a new lease of life with a modern facelift under the management of the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS). The school, which has been a cornerstone of academic and cultural growth in the region, faced an existential crisis when the National Highway Authority acquired its land and building in 2019 for highway expansion. The forced relocation to a less suitable facility raised concerns among the local community and educational stakeholders about the future of the institution.

To address this challenge, the Muttungal LP School Protection Committee was formed, bringing together community representatives and education advocates committed to preserving the school’s legacy. Their efforts led to ULCCS taking over the management of the school for the 2024-25 academic year. Committed to providing world-class educational infrastructure, ULCCS constructed a state-of-the-art building designed to meet international standards, ensuring a conducive environment for both academic and extracurricular activities.

The newly built school is now a model facility in Kerala, offering modern amenities that enhance the learning experience for young students. To celebrate this significant milestone, the school has organised a grand inauguration event on Friday featuring prominent figures from various fields, including renowned writer M. Mukundan, education expert and public education advocate A. Pradeep Kumar, celebrated musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, acclaimed dancer Rajashree Warrier, Padma Shri awardee and martial artist Meenakshi Amma, poet Veeran Kitty, and former Indian hockey player C. K. Vineeth.

With this transformation, Muttungal LP School is poised to continue its legacy of excellence, providing quality education in a world-class setting while honouring its rich history.
