
Veteran Congress Leader P.P. Thankachan Dies At 86
Kochi: Senior Congress leader and former Kerala Agriculture Minister P.P. Thankachan died on Thursday. He was 86.
Born on July 29, 1939, in Angamali, Ernakulam district, Thankachan began his political career with the Indian National Congress and went on to serve in several key positions.
He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly four times from the Perumbavoor constituency — in 1982, 1987, 1991, and 1996

.During his long political career, Thankachan held multiple prominent posts. He served as Opposition Chief Whip (1987–91), Speaker of the 9th Kerala Legislative Assembly (1991–95), and Minister for Agriculture (1995–96) in the A.K. Antony-led ministry. Later, he also became the President of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in 2004.
Thankachan was the son of Rev. Father Paulose. Known for his simple lifestyle and firm commitment to Congress values, he was respected across party lines. His funeral will be held at his residence in Perumbavoor on Saturday.
