What Controversy?: Shashi Tharoor On ‘Options’ Remarks
Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: Senior Congress leader and Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor has dismissed the controversy surrounding his recent remarks about having “options” if the Congress does not require his services. Responding to media queries, Tharoor said, “You all heard the podcast, what was the controversy about? I still haven’t understood it.” He reiterated that the podcast was a 45-minute discussion on life and happiness, with no significant political statements.
In a candid conversation with Indian Express Malayalam’s Varthamanam podcast, Tharoor had stated that while he remained committed to the Congress, he had alternatives if the party did not need him. His comments sparked speculation about his future in politics, including rumours of a possible switch to the BJP, which he firmly rejected, citing ideological differences. “I have always been a classic liberal. I oppose communalism and believe in social justice alongside economic growth,” he asserted.

While he confirmed this would be his last parliamentary campaign, he remained open to contributing in other capacities. “If the party wants to utilise my strengths, I’ll be there. If not, I have other options,” he remarked, referencing his writing and global speaking engagements.
