Ajendra Singh Lodhi claimed the seat for SP after a fierce battle with sitting MP Pushpendra Singh Chandel. Chandel who was looking for a hat-trick victory, was surpassed by Singh with a margin of 2,629 votes. As Lodhi garnered a total of 4,90,683 votes while Chandel got 4,88,054 votes.
Ajendra Singh Lodhi holds a grassroot influence and a clear political track record. SP intends to bridge their vote share with Congress.
Pushpendra Singh Chandel’s debut in the poll fray was in 2014. He associated with the saffron party from his childhood. He served as a member of various committees during his term in Parliament. He currently serves as a member of standing committee on External Affairs, the rules committee, and the consultative committee member on the ministry of Defence.
Hamirpur is at the confluence of Yamuna and Betwa rivers. All parties had their share of victory in the constituency. Besides, SC, Rajput, Mullah and Brahmin votes have a decisive role in Hamirpur.
In 2014, Pushpendra Singh had his debut in Lok Sabha polls by garnering 4538824 votes. He emerged winner with a margin of 2,66,788 votes against Bishambar Prasad of SP. BSP and Congress relegated to third and fourth positions, respectively. In 2019, Pushpendra Singh repeated his influence on Hamirpur by receiving 5,75,122 votes. He won against Dilip Kumar Singh of BSP with a margin of 2,48,652 votes. Congress was then pushed to the third position.
