Indian National Congress (INC) candidate Anto Anton has defeated the BJP candidate and Congress turncoat Anil Antony in Pathanamthitta constituency. Anil Antony had switched to the BJP ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, and the saffron party fielded the son of former Chief Minister from Pathanamthitta. Notably, the LDF candidate and party strongman Thomas Isaac trailed behind while the NDA candidate was pushed to third place. Anto Antony secured over 60,000 votes majority.
Anto Antony was vying for fourth term from his sitting constituency. Notably, the CPM had fielded ormer Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac to wrest back the seat from Congress hold. There were apprehensions for the sitting Congress MP as he saw her winning margin declining for the two previous elections. However, defying the predictions of the political strategists, the Congress MP has secured his fourth term from Pathanamthitta
With CPM fielding former Minister T. M. Thomas Isaac against the sitting MP, the seat might see one the toughest competition given the reduced votes share of Congress’s Anto Antony in the last two general elections.
